Dead Like Me

Apparently- completely unbeknownst to me- SyFy did a Dead Like Me movie, which aired tonight.

I spotted it while channel surfing and only caught the last 20 minutes or so. AND it doesn't seem to be re-airing within the 2 week search my cable system has built into its DVRs.

It looks like several of the original cast showed up, even.

What little of I saw of it looked pretty much in line with the show itself.

Anyone else see it?

I saw it.

The good news is that it was actually released as a straight to DVD movie. You can probably find it on Netflix or in the stores. As I recall, the next time it gets aired is October, so renting/buying it might be a better option. Hopefully it will end up on Hulu at some point as well.

I actually just finished watching the series this week (yay Hulu!), so perhaps my perspective is a little skewed. For background, I was not terribly pleased how loose the writers were with the rules and premise, especially in the second season. I mostly overlooked it though, because I didn't think it made the show awful by any means. Just... less clever, I guess.

Anyway, on the movie, I didn't think it was nearly as good as any episode of the show. Since I don't know how much you know about it, I'm going to put a couple of casting comments in spoilers, although they're (IMO) pretty minor.

[sblock]The actress that played Daisy was absolutely awful. She didn't have any of Harris' charisma or charm, or acting skill. Honestly, I think it was the thing that irked me the most. I couldn't stand her, and she brought down every scene she was in.

The absence of Rube was another big blow, but understandable. There's no way they could have afforded Mandy for this. Still, he was the straight man, and the group doesn't work as well without him.

One thing I really appreciated is the actress that played George's reflection actually being cute. Every time that was brought up in the series, I kept going back to the initial episodes.[/sblock]

It wasn't SyFy that did the movie. It was in the works for a while, I haven't seen it yet but I've heard bad things.

The show is very good though. :D

Well... it did for me, obviously that's a personal thing. When I first heard about the show I thought, "man, that sounds like exactly the show for me." Having watched it from beginning to end in about 2 weeks, there were some very awesome highs, but for me a whole lot of "meh" episodes that I often found quite uninteresting. As such, as a whole I was somewhat on the fence about how much I really liked the show.

The "film" pushed me over that edge into overall just not liking it that much. Definitely not worth the time expenditure for me, most especially with the movie. That's the sense in which it ruined the series for me... it had all of the bad stuff about the series and none of the good stuff.

Plus, of course, no Mandy Patinkin. :(

we thought that it was weak and poorly executed. It was nice to see some characters move on (Joy and Reggie specifically).

The plot with new management was the weak spot.
