Deadlands Hindrance

First Post
Here is a hindrance I came up with for Deadlands. I am using D20 rules but it coul easily be tailored for ODL.

Persnickity Shooter

Despite the availability of a wide range of well-made firearms, you are extremely paricular about guns. You prefer to only use guns made by a single North American manufacturer (such as Remington) or guns made in a single country outside of North America (such as France - you panty-waist ferner). When using any other firearm, you suffer a -1 morale penalty on all attack rolls.

BTW is there a tag for deadlands or deadlands d20?

Trepelano,

Thanks for sharing this clever idea. I propose the following: let the hindrance be bought at levels 1-5, as many other hindrances are, and let the level bought determine the negative.

As I just got D20 Deadlands, and I am not too familiar with its' differences from the Pinnacle rules version, I am not certain that this is feasible, but it sounds good to me.

What do you think?

I was under the impression that Hindrances could only be taken during creation, at least for d20. I don't know much about DL Classic.

Having looked over the Hindrances from the d20 web suppliment on their website - I think this one is a bit too weak. The morale penalty should be at least -2 and possibly -4. Most other Hindrances have hefty penalties to a praticular roll. Still - the attack roll is a rather important and frequent roll - so perhaps -2 would be enough, after all.

in the Original DL, you could 'aquire' hindrances during gameplay because of things done to or by your character

like getting the 'one-armed' hindrance after getting your arm blow off! (or shot off, chewed off, etc.)

aquiring hindrances after character creation doesn't give you more skill points, though...

That makes sense - although very few of the hindrances in the d20 web enhancement woul apply to that, I think.

Right now, my only complaint is that the d20 hindrance list is way too short. I am hoping that when the Epitath (#4 I think) comes out - the list will be much longer.

that really depends on the DM (Sheriff) and what kind of monsters you're fighting or situations you're getting into

bad ears/eyes, enemies, lame, squeamish, ugly as sin - could all be aquired during gameplay as a result of lots of damage taken, severe failures on a fear or madness checks (squeamish), and so on...

your right about the small number of hindrances included in the preview. in the first two DL books, the main rules book and the Quick and the Dead, there are 56 hindrances (there are only 22 in the web preview). and that doesn't include the hindrances that are in the DL class books (Hucksters and Hexes, Law Dogs, and so on)
