Dealing with Player Cheating

Well, we played tonight and I asked the players to roll on the table and have another player witness the roll. The suspected cheater complained first time and said to me 'don't you trust us?' to which I replied 'I would like to trust you all. And I would like you to roll on the table'. There was a little moaning from one of the players who didn't know the reason for the new rolling rules, but everyone cooperated and dice rolls were back to 'normal' through the whole game.

So for now the issue is solved. It's slowed the game down a little and I don't like the fact that I had to do this- I don't even normally require players to roll stats or hit points in front of me. But at least tonight everyone had the same chance to shine during the game and I was able to actually challenge the party again :)

Well it looks like you picked the right choice to match your group.

It could explain why no women are in our group...
hmmm

Oh no wait...it's my "protective" wife...yeah that's the ticket.

Hi all,

Just looking for a bit of advice on a potential problem with my game..

...

Basically I suspect one of my players is cheating on dice rolls.

A lot of good advice on resolving the situation if the player is actually (deliberately) cheating, but i have encountered an alternative scenario that could cause the same result:
Confusion over the difference between a stat and a stat bonus.

Example- 16 Strength means you add +3 to a Str check yeah? Yawn and all that...
But a player who's a bit poor in the maths & rules comprehension department thought that "adding your stat bonus" meant adding your base stat- ie adding 16, not 3.

Not intentional, and easy enough to fix once this misconception is uncovered- your player could be the same.
