I think that overcoming the reluctance to use material that we buy bit is a bit too different is was sort of the point of buying it in the first place. So might as well take advantage of the fun you'd already paid for.

In my opinion, WOTC's producing better stuff than it has in years. GR and Mongoose, deapite the reduced market, is producing some of their best books ever. Then there's the indie scene, which is produciing games of all types and sizes, on nearly every conceivable subject.

Unfortunately, the d20 market won't support some genres. Overall, however, I don't think I've seen such a burst of raw creativity in RPGs since the early 80s.
