December Calendar

Nemesis Destiny

Adventurer
I see the schedule for 3/4ths of December is up.

I noticed that Runepriests are FINALLY getting some love from the magazines. Perhaps this will herald some support for other classes they've been ignoring lately? I do have to wonder if it will be 'classic' support of if this will be an Essentialization article for that class.

I'm also particularly interested in the Dragon article on Reflavouring Powers coming on the 15th, and the Dungeon article called Taking Names, Not Lives on the 22nd.

I find it a little disappointing that this month's Unearthed Arcana is focusing on the Psion. That limits the scope of the article quite a bit. I had hoped that UA articles would address areas of the game that span multiple classes and/or races. Stuff like enhanced criticals & fumbles, alternate spell systems, etc, like the 1e and 3e versions did.

That, and Psions already have enough support. They should be doing little else with precious Dragon mag space besides bringing the disadvantaged classes up to par - new essentialized ones, and those whose classic support lacked a Power series book (Artificer, Runepriest, etc.)

And enough with the Gamma World stuff already!!! I realize it's a new product, but we come here [to Dungeon, Dragon, and Insider] for D&D. I know you want to push your new release, but if there is that much content to push, give it its own space.

I'm also not all that partial to the fiction that has been chewing up valuable magazine space either. I'd rather that room be filled with game crunch, or even fluff, instead of novel exerpts from books I will never read.

Ok. Rant done. Whew.

EDIT: Still no mention of when or, indeed IF the CB and Compendium will update, I see.

While I don't have Gamma World yet, I think there's judging by the blogosphere a significant amount of D&D players are also playing it. Personally it is D&D to me, just reskinned.

What Gamma World content is in the magazine? The calendar just lists the typical previews given to any upcoming product, and the issue listing just mentions a D&D Alumni article. That doesn't seem like any other content has been pushed aside for this.

The Dungeon content seems rather light. Or, more specifically, a bit too focused for my taste. Looks like... 2 adventures, one 'site-based encounter', an Eberron article, a Forgotten Realms article, and two articles with simply game advice.

I really miss the Codex of Betrayal / Demonomicon / Channel Divinity articles. (The ones that actually reveal stuff about the gods, rather than those that just give some random perspective on the god for PC use). I want more Domains of Dread. Monster ecologies. They still crop up occasionally... but certainly not this month.

I know I'm dreaming, but my monster builder hasn't seen an update since August. I'm assuming that since it is going online, that I might as well give up hope till that comes out.

I too am excited about the Runepriest article (not the least because I am currently playing one), I just hope it doesn't overlap too much with the article proposal I am preparing. :P

As for the GW content, I don't really have a problem with it in general. Personally, I think that they should continue to support GW, Eberron, FR, DS, etc. They don't necessarily need an article for each every issue (frankly I think most articles each month should be setting neutral) but I think a couple articles each month dedicated to specific settings is good, and that they should rotate through all of the settings (that way everyone gets a piece of the love).

The class/race support articles are a trickier subject though because frankly, they just have so dang many. I don't know the exact number of classes off the top of my head, but if you include essentials classes and were to publish 5 class-specific articles a month (which I think is a lot actually), it will still take over 6 months to hit each one.

Oh well, at any rate, Yay for Runepriest support! Lets just hope that it doesn't suck. :D

I'd love to do more of those, if space allows. In the interim, "Court of the Bramble Queen" is a Court of Stars article (which is basically Demonomicon for fey), so hopefully it'll be to your taste. :)
