They wanted to be able to use pics from the movie for marketing purposes. With a licensing agreement like that in place, would it make sense to go and spend MORE money on other images?

Naw, i dont blame the guys or hate them or anything. I'm just in the minority that may have bought the book but now wont because of the art.

Not that i dont love the movies.. i do i think they're about as close as we're ever going to get to what id consider the real thing. it just that i have a preference towards art over pictures. and when i read a RPG manual seeing real pictures of real people just makes with think... "hrm.. where'd this brochure for Middle Earth come from... Is that in the Mid-west? ;) )

I major thing about LOTR is that no rule is in a game to keep balance between races/orders/etc... So, powergaming is very easy. Well, the characters are meant to be heroes.

The idea is that narrator has a duty to encourage players to create characters that are more than just effective. (background, personality, motives, non-combat skills)

Don't you mean New Zealand? :D

Fair enough.

The rules certainly aren't "d20 Lite." There are some obvious similarities, but there are also notable differences between them. In all, the system goes a long way towards providing a Middle-earth feel, something I.C.E.'s game never even really attempted.
