Deep Horizons finished!

First Post
Finally the group I play with finished Deep Horizons. This was probably the worst module I've ever played in. I guess I should say something nice about it though...

Well I'm glad we finally got a wizard in the group. Not from player death or a new player. We did have about 3 or 4 off and on player who quit playing so we let their characters go their own way and made up a totally new one.

On a funny note my cleric had some good Flamestrike damage. Close to the start we only had 3 character and the 4th was about to be introduced(not the wizard). We were attacked. My cleric Flamestriked and did 54 on 13d6. Not bad IMO. Bad thing was that unknown to me I hit the new character who was being held as a prisoner. I couldn't see him at the time. Later on in a big fight I cast another Flamestrike. Only 45 damage on 14d6 a bit under average. Unfortunately due to a slightly misaimed casting I once again hit the same character. To bad he was at 45 hit points and failed his save.

But anyways we've started Lord of the Iron Fortress and after Deep Horizons this one feels great.

Well, other than bad luck and flaky players, what was wrong with the module? I haven't played it, but I'd like to know.

Remember to answer with spoiler tags, if necessary.

I never tried to run it, but the subject matter really turned me off. Bat-people just don't do much for me. (As the cover has one I believe, that's not really a spoiler).

I was running the modules, in order, when 3.0 came out, though I only made it to The Standing Stones. I enjoyed all of them, thought they were all well written - including the ones I didn't get to (which I read). They are a great way to introduce players to the system, up through level 20. Good for introducing the DM as well. I must say, the only thing I regret about 3.5 is that now these modules don't have that benefit anymore due to the rules changes. I wonder if they'd update them. I know people here would whine about that, but I think it would be a good idea.

No spoilers in this reply.

I've DMed Iron Fortress, and it's a little better than average, IMO. In any case you should continue to Bastion of Broken Souls after that .. it's the best module in the 'path series, IMO. Some battles are very lethal though, so don't go in unprepared.
