Defend the Magebane enchantment

Not having the book with me, does the text actually say something like "spellcasters and spell-like abilities" or does it just stipulate "arcane spellcasters"? It makes a big difference, as a creature with just spell-like abilities (arcane or not) is not a spellcaster.

I don't have the book with me either, but IIRC it specifies that it works against arcane spellcasters and creatures with [arcane?] spell-like abilities.

It nerfs arcane spellcasters, that's the justification that is needed. Quite appropriate really coming from a book entitled "Complete Arcane", where it's basically full of nerfs for arcane spellcasters.

Lol! You should be a comedian.

crystalkeep says:
Against any creature that casts Arcane spells or has Arcane
spell-like abilities, the weapon gains an extra +2 attack bonus
& does an extra +2d6 damage.

"Against any creature with arcane spells currently prepared or spell slots available to cast arcane spells without preparation, or against creatures with the ability to use arcane spell-like abilities, a magebane weapon's effective enhancement level is 2 better than normal (so that a +1 longsword becomes a +3 longsword when wielded against arcane spell casters) and deals an extra 2d6 points of damage."

Looks like a +1, Holy, Magebane weapon is pretty gross against everything except mundane threats, which you don't much care about because they are, well, mundane.

It's 18K, or 9K with a party member making it.

Vs. typical magic-using evil things, the weapon is +3 to hit, +3 damage, and +4d6 unresistable damage per hit.

Sounds like the perfect enchantment for a bow!

It seems like a +2 enhancement to me (maybe more). The reason for this is when I try to define the set of creatures it functions on. For example, an evil outsider bane enhancement would be a +1 modifier. Are evil outsiders entirely within the set arcane spellcasters or those who have arcane SLA? I'd say that in a vast majority of cases that would be true (e.g. all core SRD demons except bebilith). The same thing applies to many other creatures, so this set of targets is FAR greater than any other set of targets for any other bane weapon.

I think if you just remove the SLA qualifier, it would be +1.

Everything in your example is correct, except that the price for +1 Holy Magebane is 32,000, rather than 18,000 ;)
