When have we seen anything other than DDM stats for the Ascendant Hellsword?

Oh I see... you ARE talking about the DDM stats. That's what Keterys is saying: Even the RPG stats from the Minis is out of date.

Well, the document in question was released maybe 10 days ago. I was going with the assumption that it was fairly accurate, but if not, then not.

Compare to the 11 elite grell controller from the actual monster manual - it should be ((11 + 1) * 8 + Con) * 2

*goes to look it up*

Con 16, hp 224

Which adds up perfectly.

I'm convinced! I have edited the original post to correct the HP. I also explicitly stated the amount healed by the blood drain ability in the stat block.

Sadly, no. DDM gets shipped off overseas several months beforehand, so it was using very very old data. All the DDM stats are off, particularly for hit points.

Technically it's more of a thing for PCs rather than NPCs, but a 11th level rogue does +3D6 sneak attack damage. Not necessarily important since it's based off of a "Defiant Rake NPC" rather than a "11th level rogue".

That's a good point, and a good example of where the rules for advancing monsters fall a little bit short. In general if I were going to create a vampire NPC from a rogue character type I'd have started with a higher-level rogue-themed NPC to begin with. In this case I didn't have one available so I made do.

It will be okay whey we have the full rules - you will be able to check how much damage per attack an 11th level character should be able to do to decide if you should make the sneak attack 2 or 3 d6.

I expect that 3 will work.

Mike Mearls has said that they removed the phrase "sneak attack" from monsters that do additional damage on combat advantage. People assumed you had to follow the rules for the rogue ability, which wasn't always true (oni/ogre mages "sneak attack" with greatswords, for example).

So it's possible that the defiant rake's damage doesn't increase at 11th level. No way to know for sure until we see the final rules, though.

This vampire's already making pretty hefty attacks when it has combat advantage. 2d12 base, 4 charisma, 2d6 sneak attack = 24 damage dealt, plus 52 damage healed, with each hit. The average PC has, what, 70 or 80 hit points at 11th level? Package the Defiant Rake Vampire Lord with a normal leader, an artillery, and a handful of minions and that's a pretty scary encounter...
