Defining a decade with a movie: 1970s

Star Wars defined a long time ago in a galaxy far far away -- the 1970's weren't really invovled. :p

Overall, I'd choose Network which won 3 Academy Awards for the acting and includes some fantastic quoteables like "There is no 'America.' There is no 'Democracy.' There is only IBM and AT&T, Empire oil... and Exxon."

Alternately, stop to consider that The Rocky Horror Picture Show may well be showing in more theaters today than Star Wars.

Definitely Jaws. It was truly the first blockbuster. It was the first movie ever to be released to a bunch of theaters at the same time, rather than staggering it from LA and NY to, eventually, the smaller towns in the US. And the reason it's called a blockbuster? Because it was the first time that people lined up for blocks to see the movie.

It also introduced a brilliant and extremely talented director in Steven Spielberg.
