Delay Spell

...sorry, don't have T&B here :)

Do you remember what can you do between casting a spell metamagicked with Delay Spell and the spell itself taking effect?

Can you perform full-round actions or does it require concentration? In case you can, can you also cast another spell "meanwhile"?

The only thing I remember is that you have to decide the delay length when you start casting, and that the spell can be dispelled between casting and taking place.

Thanks for help :)

Whatever you like. The delayed spell has already been cast.

Can you also dismiss the spell itself? I mean, after having cast it but while it's delaying, can you stop it or is it too late? :)
No, you cannot stop the spell.
You have already pulled the pin. Mr. Grenade is no longer your friend.

Another delay spell?

Isn't it a +3 level metamagic?

And if so why?

I honestly can't see it palced above +1 level, what balance issue am I missing here.

I think the balance issue comes from the possibility of lining up multiple delayed spells, which you could use to set up a really killer surprise attack. Start casting with a delay of 5 rounds; one round later, cast with a delay of 4 rounds; and so on, until everything goes off at once.

Imagine stacking Delay Spell onto Quicken Spell, and having Haste in effect. You could queue up to 15 spells, all set to go off in the same round. Sure you're probably out of slots, but your opponent is too dead to cause you any trouble.

Surprise Attack

Sure, you can surprise people with this. But I still believe that it's "over-priced" for it's usefulness. +1 or at most +2 would be right for this one. Besides, highlevel characters might be able to detect magic even in it's dormant form and avoid going into trap...

Thanks!

Ok, so has anybody taken this metamagic feat? I think it's a nice idea, although mostly useful for retreating or ambushing, but I agree that the metamagic price is way too high! For +3 I'd have a Ready Spell feat that lets me ready the discharging of effects or let it go whenever I like between casting and 5 rounds afterwards (well, I'd have it also for +4 :)).

Nah, I'm thinkin a +0 is way more accurate. After all, a Delayed Double Empowered Fireball is only a 7th level spell.....
