But between the international detectives and jail <strong>are a wall of reporters,</strong> barking out questions and insults.</p><p>Zelda Saeki brings calm to the chaos, demanding that the reporters ask one question at a time. A<strong> journo wonders if this is because Ivan "Ivo" Kochev is a wanted criminal.</strong> Ivo instantly spins a tale about how he's a Macedonian freedom fighter, and nobody on the street is informed enough to disagree. When the New York Post tries to paint JP Diamond as a communist lover, his wife Captain Ivanova sets them straight. She quotes constitutional amendments and the New York statute for fair process, awing bystanders as flashbulbs go off. She's defiant as she steps into the paddywagon, having turned the crowd completely to her side.</p><p></p><p>But instead of Sing-Sing, the perps are brought to the FBI’s new field office at 370 Lexington Ave, mere blocks from the Chrysler Building. Head agent Salinger informs them that <strong>they're not actually under arrest; the process was a ruse</strong> to fool organized crime! Ivanova is furious (the term "diplomatic incident" is employed repeatedly), but her husband calms her down. </p><p></p><p>Today begins the trial of Lucky Luciano and eight co-defendants (The Bonding Combination). The group's on trial for leading a prostitution ring of tremendous proportions. The ZSS has been hired to make sure the Trial of the Century doesn't lose all its witnesses; many are in prison already, but seven (and their fourteen-person police escort) are missing. Salinger's working with female DA Eunice Carter as part of a secret operation; <strong>not even the prosecutor knows it's happening</strong>.</p><p></p><p>Since the mission is so broad, the ZSS employs some of its less active members. Salinger wants two guards and two fake inmates at both Rikers and Women’s House of Detention. Ivanova volunteers for guard duty, and is joined by ZSS publicist Bonnie Tuttle. Gia CM and Querida Wilcox's assistant Dolores join gen pop. At Rikers, Major Jonathan Striker and Rafe Lancaster pick up the batons; Steel Eagle and Tacito "The Jade Jaguar" Velasco put on the stripes.</p><p></p><p>Millionaire Mystic Devika and country cousin Clara Tate join the active team. With Zelda and JP teaming up, one clue leads to another. Two New Yorkers, from different locations, recall seeing black delivery vans on the night the witnesses went missing. No plate numbers, but one had “Buckman’s Flowers” and the other read “Lanzano’s Pasticceria”. The crime scenes suggest professionals. Turns out both businesses had been turned over recently, bought for pennies on the dollar by a company on the East River docks.</p><p></p><p>The group sees the big boss (Joseph “Socks” Lanza), and plays it diplomatic. Of course, they don't know that any snoops would be getting the meat hook treatment! Clara smells something fishy right before the group is led to the back room for an ambush. Hidden among a bunch of union thugs with fillet knives is <strong>Harry Strauss, Murder, Inc’s top killer!</strong></p><p></p><p>It's good that the docks aren't particularly populated, because Clara and Zelda were ready for a shootout.</p><p></p><p>Ivo flanks the group and convinces some of the thugs that the toughest one of them is actually a rat! In the chaos, JP and Devika start busting heads. Once Cassie put some holes in Strauss, the big boss surrenders. He names names, and Devika calls in a buddy to help deal with the chaos. Soon, The Grey Gargoyle arrives... </p><p>The group follows the leads, but the Luciano organization doesn't have any rats in the case. Hopefully the prison teams are doing better... </p><p>*** </p><p>Gia and Delores make friends quickly in women's prison. The inmates are going through withdrawal symptoms and are scared of being targeted by the mob. Over in the CO's office, Ivanova scans the schedule and finds that Eunice Carter's secretary (Nina Wood) came in without her and <strong>tried to change the on-duty schedules. </strong></p><p></p><p>Over in Rikers, there's evidence Meyer Lansky wants to move in on Luciano, but no planned chaos. Rafe uses his company's resources to talk to some illegal arm suppliers. Apparently there was a big player in Norfolk Virginia, CPO Mason Wood. But he kept his beak suspiciously clean. </p><p></p><p>The next morning, the group heads to 370 Lexington Ave. They lie that they need some paperwork sorted and take Nina into a conference room, where they accuse her of being a mole for the Combination. She denies it, <strong>so Devika takes a wild guess... </strong></p><p> ...And accuses her of being a mole for T*R*U*S*T*! </p><p>Nina's made of stern stuff, but her will is no match for <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4KzkGqQ1xk" target="_blank">The Temple Bells of Neban</a>! Former-Goddess Devika conjures Wood's deepest doubts, and makes Nina confess to conspiracy in front of the entire office! </p><p></p><p>JP puts all the clues together, and realizes the prison transfer was to capture more witnesses and put them into T*R*U*S*T* custody. Ivo calls some criminal contacts of his, and one mentions having seen a submarine. The group rushes to the river, and sneaks behind a Navy sub with its deck guns aimed at the sky! </p><p></p><p>Devi, knowing that periscopes are just made of mirrors, uses her mystic whammy on the XO. </p><p></p><p>Ivo starts banging on the far side of the sub, creating a distraction and <strong>letting Zelda take the deck gun</strong>! From there, the naval conspirators are overmatched and soon overboard. The CPO put up a valiant effort, but Wood is no match for gunpowder. </p><p></p><p>Inside the submarine are the seven witnesses and fourteen officers, and the prison conspirators never make it back to the sub; they weren't expecting the Captain and Gia CM rallying the female population against them! </p><p>*** </p><p>Later, in the office, Salinger strolled in with news about Luciano's conviction. While he was there though, he had a question: had anyone there heard of Detective Roy Ramsey, LAPD? The Captain (who had killed the dirty blackmailer back <strong>In The Hills Have Bette Davis Eyes</strong>), faked confusion. JP, newlywed and a Southern gentleman, vouched that Roy was a stranger.
