He’d gone to Montana to hunt wild game, but a grizzly bear he killed had turned into a dead man. The bear-man was holding a cursed coin, and his ID (plus some investigating in Helena) revealed he was a bandit. <strong>The group was planning their next move when the local cathedral was robbed of its holy water!</strong> Turns out the banditos had found a cache of hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of cursed coins from the Lewis and Clark expedition… and needed the water to uncurse them!</p><p></p><p>The ZSS followed the desperados back to their campsite, but the ritual went wrong, and the spirit of the curser appeared! The Blackfoot shaman pointed his ghostly staff at two of the crooks, <strong>who immediately turned into grizzlies</strong>! Chaos!</p><p></p><p>A battle ensued, with Xiao wiping the floor with the bandits, Ivo playing dead so he didn’t get mauled death by a bear, and Clara providing covering fire to keep the other grizzly in line. Devi, often one for the diplomatic solution, poured her heart out to the shaman, explaining that she knew plenty about colonization, but:</p><p></p><p></p><p>Clara’s expert marksmanship was able to scare off the bears, ending the fight.</p><p></p><p>The spirit demanded that the group gather all the cursed coins and bring them to where the Blackfeet dwelled (roughly 200 miles away).</p><p>Good thing they had a plane…</p><p>***</p><p>It was a drizzly June night in Boston. The group (with songstress Florence Ziegler replacing Devika) was at an after-party when a weasel-faced man spilled a drink on Ivo’s shirt and apologized profusely. Ivo was more confused than angry, and soon discovered the man had slipped a note into his pocket before slipping off into the night. Inside was a note: overwritten opening paragraphs of a story on corruption, with a key and a locker number at South Station. The group snuck into the closed train station, and found gory photographs of police brutality. <strong>The Boston PD had an anti-gangster death squad!</strong></p><p></p><p>Thinking quickly, the group called on their sources to find out who the man was and where he stayed. Despite the rain coming down in buckets, they raced to Brighton, where a group of plainclothes officers were breaking into the man’s apartment. Xiao, master of wuxia, was able to get to the man’s third-floor landing in mere steps. With some effort, Florence and Clara were able to get up the fire escape and rescue the reporter! Xiao had underestimated the cops though, <strong>and almost broke her hand taking on the squad.</strong> They were ready to take her down when Ivo, thinking fast, honked the horn and flashed the highbeams, giving Xiao an opportunity to retreat.</p><p></p><p>The Yugoslavian smuggler was able to escape the police APB for Xiao, escaping the city and heading to the next big media market: New York! The foursome called on favors to have the photos published, and after some begging and promises of protection, were able to get the story out there. Soon (and with the group calling in all sorts of favors), the media pressure was so intense that the officers were discharged and arrested. <strong>But it could’ve easily gone another way…</strong></p></blockquote><p></p>
