I didn't see a thread about this, so I wanted to post it here for those who didn't know.

Evil Hat Games is releasing a revised and expanded version of Shannon Appelcline's book Designers & Dragons, as a four-volume set this time, with one volume for each of the previous four decades. They've just put up a huge (over one hundred pages) excerpt from the first book over on their website.

It's an incredible read for any D&D fan, and I highly recommend it to everyone here!

EDIT: To reiterate, Shannon Appelcline is the guy writing all of those fascinating histories for D&D products over on dndclassics.com, along with Kevin Kulp (our very own Piratecat)!

Very nice overview and it certainly entices me to check out the rest of the series.

I would have included the Dancey letter in it's entirety (though that might be in the WOTC section) because it really brings home in a personal way the rot at TSR's core at the end, though they might assume that everyone who'd be interested in the book has also read that letter.

I also might have included more details about the Egbert case, simply because it is such a pivotal moment in the history of D&D and TSR (People speak of the 'glory days' of RPGs in the 80's; I think it's certainly arguable that the publicity fallout from Egbert is the sole reason for that).

Is this a metric system thing? Here in the States we use the good old straightforward, never-confusing, British Imperial System. B-)
Kinda true - you muck about with it to "simplify" it and "decimalise" it a bit, though...

I must say I like the very concept of a "short" ton, though.

And a "hundredweight" weighing 100 pounds sounds kinda obvious, until you realise that wasn't the sort of "hundred" they originally meant...
