Destroy the Forgotten Realms Part 2

First Post
This is a continuation of a previous thread regarding some ideas to destroy the realms, and hopefully many of the "high-level/uber" NPCs that go with it.

One idea I am toying with having meteors (Malhavoc Press: Cry Havoc) hit key areas in FR: Waterdeep, Silverymoon, etc. The meteors are fragments of a second Slaad Spawning Stone. What this means is that each of these meteors is bringing with it a ton of Slaad to infect the general populace of FR. In addition, within each of the meteors is a Tarrasque that emerges upon impact and begins to lay waste to everything in it's path.

That being said, do you think that such destruction should get rid of some of the more powerful FR NPCs? What affects do you think it would have in Waterdeep or Silverymoon?

I'm imagining that if the meteor crash doesn't kill the high-powered NPCs outright, tangling with the Tarrasque (along with the Slaad) after surviving the impact will.

I'd like to think that the Waterdeep heroes (Khelben, the Paladinson, etc.) would be killed, even Alustriel (Silverymoon), but I'm not sure based on their considerable abilities. What do you think?

more toasty faerun = yum!

make the terrasques pseudonatural. each one associated with a certain area (like blackstaff & waterdeep) could "off each other" if you just want rid of certain iconic heroes, off-screen wise. or the pc's could help in the battle and witness a powerful death scene. it would depend how far you want to take the kaiju/godzilla bit.

in any case, get rid of the iconic uber-heroes. it will make your players' group more, well, heroic. :)

Will it get rid of the really power NPC's? Well, maybe in the short term. But unless it disrupts spells that bring back the dead, they'll be back. That's the advantage of having friends who are also high powered. If it does disrupt spells that bring back the dead, then the PC's will have to be very careful.:)

To be honest, I'd go more kaiju than Tarraque. The Tarraque is more fun as a unique creature. But you can easily bring in large, nigh unstoppable creatures to lay waste to an area without making them all Tarraque.

-I believe in the Evermeet book there was a comet called the "king-killer" which came around once every couple hundred years or so and somehow temporarily altered the minds of evil dragons as it passed by. This alteration caused them all gather into one massive, roving flight of destruction which could easily change the face of the planet.
-I doubt that either Waterdeep of the vaunted Silverymoon with their high powered figures could stop a thousand or so dragons. If you did some how allow them to do it, the resulting death of so many magical creatures could easily destabilize the weave. If you want to have some fun, have resulting magical backlash kill or drive Mystra insane. Thus making all magic cast subject to wild surges with your own custom affects.;)

Why do it the hard way?

Let the PC's get a chance to stop the bad guys from activating an artifact that will "Flood the world with evil."

Then let them fail.

And then PERMANENTLY change everyone's alignment, even the God's, to the exact opposite.

Let the PC's deal with Khelban "The Spider" Arunson, and Elmister "Ravenclaw"...

See how they like them apples.

dreaded_beast, why aren't you using the established armaggedon of FR, the arrival of Dendar the Night Serpent? Just say that Shar distracted Ubtao and he was unable to stop the Night Serpent from devouring the sun...

If you are feeling nasty, cut off FR from the planes (and, thus, from divine power), but not before you unleash Kezef and the Elf-Eater. Oh, and have the Weave and the Shadow Weave both go wild and result in destruction of everything magical...

That's pretty funny as I'm about to do almost the same thing with my Realms campaign. My BBEG is Orcus himself and he's got a "meteor thrower" in orbit which is going to launch the rocks from Selune's Tears onto Toril. While the PCs are working to save the planet on their own, I just don't worry about the big superhero Realmsians. If you relate your campaign at all with the novels, that means that Elminster is still missing (in the current time) and Blackstaff et al are rather busy with the phaerimm/Shadow threat.

In short, don't worry about Elminster and the gang. Even if you don't read the novels or care about them, just assume that the superheroes have something better or even *more important* to do.

Hmm..first I have heard of this, can you tell me more?

1. Dendar - what is this about the established FR armaggedon?
2. Kezef - he's like the Fenris Wolf right?
3. Elf-Eater - never heard of that before...

Had a problem like this myself once, that is until the party walked thru a stone circle near Myth Drannor. Then they found out that two thousand years had passed and wow had things changed in the Realms..................heh heh heh
