Destroying Undead...

Klaus

First Post
In the 3.5 PHB, pg 159, it states "if the character has twice or more levels than the undead has HD, it is destroyed".

Nowhere does it state the type of levels.

Character levels?

Class levels?

Effective cleric level?

Help?

Well, it is pretty unspecific. However, the turning damage rules are explicitly based off character level:

If your roll on Table: Turning Undead is high enough to let you turn at least some of the undead within 60 feet, roll 2d6 + your cleric level + your Charisma modifier for turning damage. That’s how many total Hit Dice of undead you can turn.

So I would assume that the destruction capability is as well.

I think you meant to say class level, i.e. cleric level.

I agree, with the caveat that class levels stack, for classes that share the Turn Undead ability. So a Cleric6/Paladin4 would Turn Undead (and destroy Undead) as a 7th-level cleric. This holds true for PrCs that grant the Turn Undead ability as well.

Class levels in a class that allows turning undead. Usually a cleric or paladin.

To clarify: A paladin turns undead as a cleric 3 levels lower.
