Destruction on a ludicrous scale

Two main options here, I think...

1) Collide one material plane with another material plane. The raw force of the impact, and other wierd dimensional effects, will certainly lead to mutual desctruction (a two for one deal). Has the benefit of letting the heroes wander across two different planes, trying to save both. Secondary benefits occur if the two planes are at war with each other.

2)Unstopable Ultimate Monsters of Prophecy usually get the job done.

In one campaign, there is a race that are all extremely talented in dealing with probabilities and all their science is based upon such concepts. Their most powerful weapon is a localized space where nothing is probable (as in there is a 100% chance that nothing exists there). They can manipulate the probability fields which contain it to briefly cause the localized space to exist in two points at once, completely annihilating anything that previously existed in that space. The kick is that in order to operate it, you have to be within visual range of the point you want to affect.

In your case, the locusts could be a hive mind that are trying to see every point on the prime material, thus achieving literal omniscience- so they can destroy everything.

Entropy.

Age the entire sphere until even protons disintegrate 10^40 yrs. Continue beyond that until even Black holes evaporate (via "Hawking radiation") 10^150 yrs.

The excursians in Nobilis want to destroy creation. They do it by creating elaborate circumstances that devoid terms of their meaning. As the meaning is lost, so is this term battled with on the spiritual realm, leading to the destruction of all that exists one Platonic ideal at a time. A typical ploy, for example, might be to get a mathematician to square the circle, eradicating all circles (and circle-like objects) from existence (including the past).

The fey of Exalted also seem bent on destroying the world by returning it to the primeval chaos from which it was forged. Areas under their influence revert back to chaos. Alternatively, the dead gods seek to turn Creation into nothingness, in practical terms suffusing everything with negative energy until the earth itself crumbles into dust and disappears and nothing is left but the endless barren spans of negative energy/entropy.

I've once destroyed an entire crystal sphere in Spelljammer (supernova), and I once destroyed the material plane by splitting into its constituent elements; the refugees ending up on various elemental planes. That was in a game involving time travel, so the players were trying to stop this happening.

[Stargate ripoff]: send a Spehere of Annihilation into the Sun until it loses enough mass to go unstable and supernova.

Other than that, how about a ritual to fuel a Sphere of Annihilation with energy from the negative plane so it keeps growing and growing.

Well, a question is whether it has to go out in a single big bang, or do you want something progressive such that the PC's can stop it, but there is still lots dustruction that already happened?

If you go for the big bang, then something akin to a huge bomb, the sun going supernova etc. is the best bet.

The destuction, is it about killing all life, or do the physical assets (i.e. the planet itself) also need to get annihilated? IF it's about killing all life, then releasing some form of magical plague that kills'_everything_ living, including the smalles bug or grass strand is a way to go. If you want to destroy ALL, then some form of expanding sphere of annihilation is a good one...

[humour] Fistful of brown mould into the plane of fire. Infinite fire causes infinite expansion, displacing the plane of fire and thus destroying a fundamental elemental balance.[/humour]

On the serious side of things, some kind of cosmic-level shatter effect that causes a crack in the sphere, allowing Outside to seep in, and reclaim the raw material of the plane (my Spelljammer-fu is weak, ok). Maybe the LoW are able to collectively create this effect by all focusing their energy into one tiny segment of the sphere.

Serious version of the brown mould joke, open a long-lived and MASSIVE connection between the planes of fire and water, unleashing all kinds of climatological and magical insanity on the material plane, causing it ultimately to fragment back down to its constituent elements.

Negative Energy. Always fun, since as far as I can tell, this stuff is pure anti-everything.

Ah... if it is a truly spelljammer like crystal sphere, the way to do it would be to open up the crystal sphere itself. Let the phlogiston enter, get in contact with the sun at the centre, and kaboom..... gone is the plane...

I was also thinking of a Negative Energy rift.

Good.

Better. How did this work on Stargate?

The MacGuffin opens a simultaneous rift to the Positive and Negative energy planes, creating strangelets...

Best. Hrm... tasty strangelets...
