Dice spinning

How do you all feel about dice spinning?

Sometimes, it is a sign of boredom. But not always - some folks just have a need to fidgit with something. For them, it isn't a sign of boredom, or inattentiveness. It is just something they do.

Sometimes it's because they're bored, but at least as often it's just fidgiting. I have a bad habit of flipping my pencil across my fingers myself, you don't really think about it so you don't realize how annoying it can be to other people.

I don't spin my dice, but I fiddle with things. I'm not at all bored and I'm playing close attention.

However, in my career, multi-tasking is an absolute necessity. I have done it for so long and so extensively, that...I just can't stop. I am almost incapable of sitting there and doing one thing.

So, I've given up trying. I listen, take in what's going on, pay attention and enjoy it...but I do so while fiddling with my dice, reading obscure rules, etc.

So, in other words, as long as I am confident that I have someone's attention, I don't care if I have their attention while they are also doing something else.

I've got busy fingers so I've found myself spinning, stacking and/or rolling dice during downtime.

I'm also a multi-tasker so i've actually caught myself doing stacking and unstacking dice while I was carrying on a conversation ingame.

If I get really bored, I end up sketching. I have a DS, but I don't play during games.

Yeah I know. There are people of all kinds at every table. Trust me, I'm one of them. And it isn't cause I'm bored. I bounce my legs 95% of the time that I'm sitting down...
Are you thin? It's been shown that people who fidget a lot, especially those who do larger motions such as bouncing or crossing & uncrossing legs, tend to be thinner because they burn more calories. I actually tried to develop the habit but it didn't work; I'm sedentary by nature.

Sorry for the OT post.

Instead of assuming that dice spinning means they player is "bored" it might be more effective to assume it indicates the player is IDLE.

What's a player doing during his turn? Probably talking or rolling dice.

What's a player doing when its not his turn? Depends on how long they've had to wait for their turn to do something.

Assuming the player doesn't just start spinning the moment it isn't his turn, you can use the dice spinning as a signal that perhaps you've spent too much time on another player, or that the game isn't moving.
