Dice Towers

Dice towers seem like a pointless waste of time. JUST USE YOUR HAND, PEOPLE!

:D

I think people tend to use them to "ensure" the roll is a fair roll, and the roller will impart no bias to the die.

I think they take too much time myself, and don't worry too much about a cheater cheatin. :P

I really don't get this idea of using dice towers. It's like asking someone to cheat. Only with dice towers they don't even need any skills to do so and you have no way of telling if they go cheese or not.

That might be why people use them, but trust me - that ain't what they do.

For the record:
* cup - easy to cheat, easy to spot cheater
* hand - hard to cheat, hard to spot a good cheater, easy to spot bad one.
* tower - see above, only there's no way to be bad at it

How so?

Seems like a properly designed one ensures the dice bounce around on their way down and out?

Yes, and if you drop it always the same way - there will be always the same effect. You get for example 20 x roll instead of 3 / 3.5 - 4 (depending on how big hand you have), but the hard part is to control your palm. The tower will never flinch, it will never hesitate, it doesn't get sweaty, it will never shake. Everything other is just observation.

I would have captured my end of the table and built a fort. That will show him to mess with me.

If we both played at his table, we not only could build forts with our books, but we could throw dice at each other as opposing forces! His sign never said not to throw dice.
