Did someone declare January "Edition Wars" month?

Or is it a Dragonsfoot board invasion? What's up with all the 1e vs. 3e threads we've had the last few weeks or so? Just a case of the stars being right and Cthulhu rising from the bottom of the sea, or is there some more sinister purpose at work?

I don't think it's an invasion or anything, just something that happened to come together. It did come on rather suddenly, though... :\

Actually I think this is a WOTC scheme and they are going to bring out 4th Edition - by reissuing 1E as a new game!

Slap a new cover on it, change the names and expound on the virtues of simply play. Just think about the savings in development costs, writers, etc...

I much preferred the old B/X vs. AD&D 1E edition wars myself. They had much more flavor, simpler mechanics that allowed for more creative insults, and captured the spirit of flame wars far better than 3.5 ever could.

Yep. Says so right here on my calendar: Jan 2007 - Edition Wars. It must be something to do with all that Hogmanay looking back and taking stock mentality. It's good for the soul though, and important that we don't forget D&D's evolition. Of course, creationist gamers claim that 3rd Edition was invented first, and all the rest are clever fakes created by Baal

My D&D Rules Cyclopedia would beat up your SRD.

Heh... when I saw all the trolling (for that's what I consider it to be), I checked over at Dragonsfoot to see if there was an obvious call to arms like the ones Scadgrad and Akrasia used to call when pushing C&C... but I didn't see one.
