Did WOTC make money with COC d20?

Does that mean it was a waste of a project to begin with that could be better spent on something more long-term?

Not at all. The Call of Cthulhu d20 book is a excellent book in itself. I am just doubting that Chaosium can do anything now other than a reprint of some of their old stuff.

Well, they had their chance when they announced a Pulp Cthulhu setting for the Wizards' CoC Rulebook but couldn't follow through.

Maybe it is an excellent rulebook but it is just a one-shot. Nothing more.

If it made them profits during the time it was out, then I don't see how it was a waste of anything. From the begining I think D20 CoC was supposed to be a one-shot for WotC ... sort of a miniaturized version of D&D and D20 ... WotC puts out the big shiney core, somebody ELSE puts out all of the supplemental product that WotC doesn't want to produce. For WotC it was a profitable side that brought in some bucks from a strong cult-fanbase ... For the PLAYERS at WotC, I imagine it was more like a happy hand-up to Chaosium and a great chance to do THEIR thing with an old and much beloved RPG. For Chaosium it was a chance to get some wider recognition and a chance to tap into one of the few lucrative arenas left in the RPG industry ... d20 Gamers. Even Paladin Press was going to get into it with Delta Green d20, which was just going to be a reprint of the original book with d20 stats added in ... but I'd have bought it in a NY second. That's one guy, as far as I know, sitting in his basement trying to get a book made.

According to everyone involved DG D20 is definitely still in the works, supposedly it will be out by the end of the year (I've learned not to get my hopes up on the release dates).

FWIW Eos Press is actually handling the publishing for Pagan (it's not Paladin).

Mea culpa. I remembered it started with "Pa" ... two out of five ... :\

I've been following DG d20 on and off for quite a while now. Keeps getting pushed back. So I've slacked off lately.
