Diehard feat and non-lethal damage

Hi everyone. I am wondering if anyone has any official answer (or unofficial insight) into this question.

How does non-lethal (subdual!) damage interact with the Diehard feat? Looking at the PHB, I seem to think that the Diehard feat does not affect a character's reaction to non-lethal damage at all, but in some cases that seems a little silly. If the standard rules apply, then a character with the Diehard feat and 1 point of non-lethal damage would fall unconscious if his or her hit point total dropped to 0 or less. The same character with no non-lethal damage could keep on swinging, if not as proficiently as before because he or she could only act as though disabled. Disabled beats unconscious anyday.

Thoughts? Comments? If I misread this situation, I would love to be corrected. If not, it would be great to find some kind of solution, even if that solution is "play the rules as they are".

I think the logical route would be to make their new threshold -10 instead of 0. Thus someone at -7 with 4 non-lethal would be unconscious and stable. This makes the feat still viable and imo makes the most sense.
