Diety cross-worshipping?

I am looking to build your typical cleric archer, but with a twist. Just to be different, I want to make him a dwarf!

However, in FR I could not find any good dwarven diety as well suited to archers as the elven dieties. Soooo....

Is it possible for a dwarf cleric to worship a elven diety?

For that matter, how silly/crazy/munchkiny/bad is the idea?

Obviously, this would probably depend on the DM, but is there a rule precendent for this? Looks to me like I might have to get started writing a 10 page background story just to get this past my DM... :(

If anyone is inspired to make suggestions, he will be 4th level, 32 point buy.

Thanks!

There's nothing in the rules to stop it.

It's very bad.

If I were your DM, and you're picking up an elven deity for your dwarven cleric just to get the stupid war domain bonus to your bow, I would say no, and possibly taunt you. :)

You know, after typing that last message the full silliness of having a dwarf worship an Elven god just struck me.

But that's not to say I am not going to try to get it passed. ;)

You want your dwarf to have the Elf domain? Never heard of it, must be a FR thing, but, um, yeah, I'll just let that statement stand:

You want your dwarf to have the Elf domain.

:)

Ok, uh, he was an orphan, yeah, and he was, uh, left on the doorstep of the elven temple, and uh, prior to that he was raised by apes....and uh....yeah that's the ticket....

This is why I'm glad in the Scarred Lands, we just have 18 deities and only two of them are racials. And THEY don't give out stupid elf and dwarf domains! :p

Actually, there's a rule against dwarves worshipping an elven deity: "If the typical worshipers of a deity include the members of a race, a cleric must be of the indicated race to choose that deity as his own. (The god may have occasional worshippers of other races, but not clerics.)" (PHB 3.5, p. 32)

That said, I'd probably allow it IMC if there's a good reason for it. But not if the player would tell me that he just wants those special domains ;)

Ah. I suspected as much.

Ok, fine, yet another wood-elf cleric of Labelas Enoreth it is then. Mind you, *I've* never run one, but I undertsand they are very popular.

Thanks!
