Differences in the PS3s

I've recently started a much better paying job and between that and Sony finally releasing games I'm interested in, I'm looking into getting a PS3. What are the differences between the 60GB model and the soon to be released 80GB model? Is the 80gig one worth the wait and the extra cash?

main gamble really, is because the 60gig's price was lowered to clear it out. Once they're sold out, they're gone. Once that is done, it's up in the air what will happen. It's possible the 80gig will drop in price to where the 60 gig is lowered to now.

The 80gb model
- at least right now, includes Motorstorm
- does not include some backward compatiblity hardware, which means that instead of about 98% of PS2 games working, only about 75% do (though some of the ones that do look better).

I don't think 20GB and Motorstorm is worth $100, especially when you throw in worse backward compatibility, and when you consider that off-the-shelf notebook hard drives will work in the PS3 (an 80GB retail notebook hard drive goes for about $60).

My thoughts exactly.

Honestly, I'd say if you're going to get a PS3, get one of the 60GBs. At least that way its got the strong backward compatibility and only 20GB less.

So is there still an issue with it not scaling graphics properly or something? I used to read stuff about people having to play in SD since it wouldn't scale games to play on their TV. I have a 720p/1080i TV myself.

The latest firmware update supposedly lets you upscale PS2 games to HD. I'm currently running my PS3 via HDMI into a 720p plasma, and it looks great. I'm not sure if its designed to upscale regular DVD's (movies) to HD or not.

Oh, and I got one of the 60GB models for the same reasons others have listed...
