Different kind of perform for bards

If I'm not mistaken there are only two bard powers that make a distinction about the type perform you need to make a check, i.e. countersong and distraction.

Since I've never been a big fan of all the sub-types of perform, I'm strongly tempted to ditch them and forget about the distinction for those two powers; of course, versatile performance would also be eliminated.

Yes, I guess.

Perform is a rather weird skill. For almost all characters it's just a "background" skill, but for bards it's a must and is basically a skill tax that they have to pay.

I'm actually tempted to go even further and just give bards one free skill rank in perform per level.

Well if you get rid of versatile performance, which pretty much negates the skill tax, then you'd have to give perform for free to the bard to balance IMO

You could end a Bards reliance on perform. Still a skill, but no longer bard class abilities require ranks.

Well, actually none of the abilities require ranks and only distraction and countersong require a perform skill check.
