On a related note I rarely use lizardmen, but the actual grouping would be something along the line of dromaeosaurid sapiens or similar. Basically they're humanoid therapods, only distantly related to lizards.
To me an amusing thing is that a humanoid Dromaeosaur might look more like a Kenku or Aarakocra than a Lizard

Maybe. Except of course they'd still just have 4 limbs. But by that logic humans should be furry since we share an ancestor with apes. 🤷‍♂️

I envision T-Rex as the lion of the savannah, and the leopard and the serval of the jungle. Since they matured relatively slowly (compared to top mammalian predators) some think they were the primary predator for several niches in the late Cretaceous.

leopards are just versatile they live damn near anywhere some have even done well in cities.
a trex is a one lifeform carcass processer the classic meaning of the lion's share (e.g. the whole thing) is more or less what a trex would do to any modern life form as it eats every part of the damn animal.

hence my comment on how they grew they effectively acted as predators of several niches when younger to full mass.

any sapient dinosaur would look very different to a lizardfolk who would likely be some relative of Squamates, tuataras or even synapsids.

speak for your self if I get any more hair I will have to put down Wookiee for ethnic background.

in more serious talk how fluffy it would depend on the environment it developed in as humans maximised for a deeply hot environment and to hunt prey at midday when everything else would rather sleep hence our lack of thick body hair, depending where Archosaur sapiens first evolved will determine a great deal about how it looks assuming gods do not get involved and in dnd they normally are.

The conjecture is that the young of the species inhabited entirely different niches which could have included hunting young sauropods in the jungle. But without a time machine we'll never know. Even if we did have a time machine it could easily end with "Oh, that's interes..."

Maybe, maybe not. Since they only exist in our imagination we can decide what they look like. I see no reason to believe that a more intelligent variation of dinosaur couldn't have come from the dromaeosaurid therapod line.

There's a lot of debate as to why we don't have as much fur as Sasquatch. Apes evolved in hot climates as well. It could have had just as much to do with allowing us to run down prey and if we needed fur we could throw on fur from whatever had just been run down.

I am fairly certain North America had no sauropods at the time vast herds of duckbills and co were likely the staple prey.
Yes, I said that about the conjecture, a Trex would struggle to deal with us as we smell wrong to it and are likely carrying fire.

A dromaeosaurid sapient would almost certainly have feathers unless derived from the most based version or forged in a place worse the the Florida Everglades on heat and humidity.

Apes tend to live in the shade of trees, we had to get big to see over the grass sea and move in the heat of the day as our night vision was terrible.
It more or less explains everything about us.
A sasquatch is a primarily forest animal and lives in cold to temperate areas meaning fur is still useful although it might grow and shed fur depending on the time of year.

They were likely absent in NA for much of the cretaceous, but reappear in the fossil record towards the very end. It could also just be a gap in the fossil record.

Well, in my campaign world they descended from therapod dinos and are not covered in feathers. Although a crown of downy feathers on their heads could be kind of awesome.
