Dire Boars loose in Alabama

Sorry but this is just sick and disgusting. His parents deserve a fair beating. Letting a kid kill an animal for sports and fun....

Boars such as this are non-native invaders. They harm the environment and are a danger to domestic animals and humans. I've got no problem with this kid taking out a dangerous animal. And since it will be eaten there isn't even any waste. I'd love to have the tusks myself...

This 10-year-old kid went to hunt pheasants and ended up bagging a monster boar all by himself.
No, I think they went hunting pig. You don't hunt pheasant with a 50-caliber pistol ... at least not if you want any pheasant left to take home with you. :)

That is a scary pig. At a thousand pounds it could kill a car if it was feeling grumpy. A 10yr old? That's a snack.

By it's looks I'd agree it's most likely a hybrid, there's definitely significant razorback lineage there. Most likely it's a cross between one of the larger domestic breeds and a razorback. At my cousin's place several of his hogs have gone to between 600 and 750lb over the past dozen or so years, hybridization can produce bigger offspring than the parent strains so it's certainly possible.

Given the fervor over Hogzilla, they might be intentionally hybridizing on these game ranches to produce the real thing. On the other hand wild hogs aren't exactly rare in the rural parts of the South could have been natural hybridization too.

If I lived in that area I'd be glad it was dead, hogs are MEAN even domestic hogs. Given half a chance they will tear you up and they're smart. A hog that size is an absolute menace that's big enough fences aren't going to stop it unless it wants them to, it's big enough not to be afraid of anything and'll be happy to eat whatever it feels like. Hogs'll eat meat that one would eat a kid, eat a grown man for that matter under the right circumstances.

Are there other boars that big or was that the only one? That'd be stupid to kill it if it was the only one, could've been brought in for studies and preservation. :\

Oh, yeah, they get that big.

Given the choice between being chased by a bear or a boar, I'd choose the bear.

Ok, just wondering. I never knew they got that big but if it's pretty common than, heck, I congratulate the lad for his accomplishment. I am also satisfied they used most of the boar instead of hunting just for the sport of it.
