dire lion costs

A character in my game is about to get a dire lion as an animal companion. The creature will not have all that much opportunity to hunt - it will probably spend a good deal of time hanging out on the party's ship, and only accompany its master on adventures in appropriate enivronments.

My question: what's your idea on how much it will cost to keep such a thing? What with the raw meat every day and all....

Three options as I see it.

You can use the same costs as horse feed (not great); the same costs as PC food; or, the one I would go with, double PC food as the request for raw meat, and the amount needed, would be considered "odd".
