Dire Tigers are real...

...well it doesn't weigh 6,000 pounds, but they do get to be about 12' feet tall standing.

The Liger

Apparently when a male lion matches with a female tiger the offspring are HUGE. The one linked is only three years old and about 10 feet tall. When fully grown he is expected to be about 12 feet tall and around 1,250 pounds.

THAT is a lot of cat.

They had one of these on the Tonight Show a few years back and I was shocked at its size. Leno was a bit nervous around it, to say the least. :)

Maybe it appears in the link, but I recall that the gene that controls growth is contained in the female lion and the male tiger. So when those mate, the offspring (tigron?) is smaller than both, as the gene is duplicated. Ligers have so such constrain, and grow large.

Wait, now we can test the theory! Go to mountaindew.com. If it works, obviously mountain dew is not as extreme as we are lead to believe.

That said, the image of some surfer-looking cliff-jumper riding on the back of a liger and slamming a dew would get me hundreds of thousands of dollars from the MD people....

hmmm.,...methinks I need to craft a proposal....mwahahaha.
