Dire Tigers are real...

[PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT]

I guess when you've fed a liger it's hard to think of them as dire.

There is this place in Wisconsin now called Valley of the Kings, where they take in lions, tigers, camels, pretty much everything. Usually the animals were owned by a private individual who thought it would be cool to own a tiger cub, then realized a full sized tiger is not so manageable.

They have a liger named Nook (there's a picture of him on the site) who is really sweet. For a while (maybe currently) he held the record for largest cat. A liger is when the lion is dominant, a tigon when the tiger is.

VotK is a really unique and special place that needs a lot of help whenever and however it can get it, whether it's money, volunteer time, or just general publicity.

The only problem is, when you breed a tiger and a lion, the offspring are invariably absolutely insane. Massive mental problems. The breeding has been condemned pretty universally.

Saw one in the Seoul Zoo once. Yup, bloody big cat.

Any specifics you can cite? I intentionally statted up the Liger with an "out of it & not paying attention" lack of spot and listen that was to represent sub- par senses from in-breeding. Maybe "All power attack, All the Time" might be good for when it really goes nuts in combat.

The mental problems stems from the parents completely different behavour patterns.

Lions are social animals living in small groups with a dominant female and a single (or in rare cases two brothers) male. They seek safety in numbers for greater hunting succes and protection from other predators (like hyenas and other lions).

Tigers are extremely xenofobic and won't tolerate other tigers in their vicinity unless its their juvenile offspring or they are in heat.

So their crossbreeding offspring ends up with two social drives. They want/need to seek out other individuals to form small prides, but can't accept other individuals near them.

Insane, I'm not sure the term applies to anything not human. Conflicted, hell yeah :)

Lions? Tigers? What about bears? Oh my.

Liger is also a superhero (anime and live action) and a Japanese wrestler (Jushin Liger, based off the anime).

Send a anthro'd liger after some PCs that don't like furries.

Um, in-breeding is breeding two closely related animals. A tiger and a lion are about as un-related as you can get and still have relations.
