D&D 4E Directly from a quote- 8 classes in 4e! (well, now subject to much debate)

You guys must have watched a different video then I did. This is what was confirmed in the interview with James Wyatt:

Defender: Paladin, Fighter
Leader: Cleric, Warlord
Controller: Wizard
Striker: Rogue, Ranger

Every class will fit into these roles. I'm still not sure on the whole Warlord thing. The way they talked about it didn't really seem to confirm it for me, but this is how it is from that video on YouTube.

What I would think that would be cool is something like that:

          Defender   Leader    Controler    Striker
Arcane    Duskblade  Bard      Wizard       Sorcerer
Divine    Paladin    Cleric    Druid        Ranger
Martial   Fighter    Warlord   Swordsage    Rogue

But we know that there are less than 11 base classes in the 4e phb...

His steps were longish and with a loping intensity that suggested he wanted to imbibe a bottle of ale that had been mixed with an unknown potion, one which had been rolled at the 99th percentile for its identity. Right here, James Wyatt mentions two other classes: duskblade and swordsage.

I'm guessing that these are prestige classes/kits/subsets of two other classes. So it's possible that warlord isn't a separate cleric class after all. Agh, how many months again before we learn the truth?!

Umm, did you actually read the part where he mentioned them? Here's the quote:

Which reminds me, I should get writing. Oh, hey. Curious about where Eberron is going for Fourth Edition? Read my trilogy. Storm Dragon only starts to hint at it—heck, it features a duskblade and a swordsage! But Dragon Forge is where the 4E goodness starts coming out in earnest.

To me, this means: The 'Storm Dragon' novel will contain the first hints about 4th ed. even though it still features classes from 3.5.

It's also been officially stated, btw. that the 4th.ed. Player's Handbook will not contain as many classes as the 3.X one because they now take up a lot more space. Therefore there cannot be more than 10 classes!

I'm pretty sure, btw. that the Warlord will be very similar to the Marshal class (and maybe killing the bard and taking his stuff...).

Excellent point. There is no "healer" role, at least in name. Perhaps the Cleric is a healer (using divine energy to close wounds) while the warlord is a martial healer (using inspiration, intimidation, and a foundation of loyalty to encourage his warriors to fight onward despite their wounds).

The undefined nature of D&D's hit point system make both a possibility.
