If you really want to get info to the judges, we're all on a yahoo group that you can email with the address %livingenworld%@yahoogroups.com without the %'s (don't want the spambots spamming the judge account)

The problem with GnomeWorks idea is that not every DM might hand out a certain amount of XP for each individual player act, but more in a bigger overview. Receiving XP either when you back out of the adventure, complete the adventure or gain a level sounds reasonable to me. In the case of needing XP for a spell or other stuff, you could ask your DM if you have enough. I think it's fair to say that if your DM decides you have enough XP to gain a level, you can choose not to gain a level in order to spend the XP on a spell or other stuff, as long as you already have something in mind.

I've mentioned before that I'm slightly against xp costs. I'm not positive on that. And the time issue is still being researched (Lichtenhart had a good idea concerning the matter, but I want to word it properly).

*boggle*

So I'm making a new character who happpens to be small, and I want a riding dog... no biggie... except they cost 150 gp? Twice as much as a light horse? Ok, leaving aside the number of points of illogic in the pricing even being similar, can we presume (as many on the rules forum seem to) that this is the price for a war dog, and a riding dog not trained for war would be 75gp, as a light horse vs light warhorse?

Dogs are more aggressive and harder to train. In addition, Dogs being able to carry people are rare to breed too. This explains their heavy cost. Since you could also settle for a pony, who only costs 30gp, I don't really see a problem.

General
I'm not currently home, where my game notes are, so I'll have to update my games in the afternoon gang...

Gnomeworks, I'm a Guy, btw :D

On the subject of XP during games

I will happily give out XP at certain points of an adventure, or when someone leaves a game etc...
As I mentioned, however, giving XP out every encounter could compromise some of the mystery of an adventure (something I enjoy fostering,as do many other DMs, I'm sure).

Examples of where it could hurt a Game.

1: You are hunting down a Wizard that you know is aprox 11th Level (which can be ascertained with a spell or two, knowledge from whoever hired you etc...). You kill a Wizard in the tower where he was suppossed to be, thus completing your mission, right?
Well, what if you didn't get the Evil Wizard (LVL 11), but his 4th level Apprentice instead? That fact that I handed out 800 XP instead of 3000 (or whatever) is going to tip players off and compromise things.

2:A party defeats some trolls, and wants their XP. Well, what if the encounter is an illusion, a hallucination brought on by drugs slipped in their tea by some pesky Pixies,etc...etc... Since they were never really in danger of being killed, the 'encounter' wasn't really one of the ECL that the Trolls would give(though I'd give them XPs for the pixies maybe).Sure, the party would gain XP based on how they handled the situation, as good role-playing should always be rewarded, but if they look at the DMG (and they will, we all look in the thing...) and they didn't get 1200XP or whatever the trolls would net the group of their level etc....same as above.

3: What if there is more to those orcs than the party is aware of.When the DM gives XP for ECL1 creatures instead of 1/2ECL, that tips players off to something that their characters hadn't fairly ascertained with their exploration and other forms of problem solving.

The main reason that I didn't give XP yet is that the party has fought a total of 6 Orcs. I don't feel that this any more a proper place to dish them out than questioning the Roadwardens (you all get 50XP, except for Troi and Rinaldo, who get 75...) or at the Wagon-Attack-Site (Zoe gains 100XP,Felix 75, the rest 50 for your deductions).

As I mentioned before, I have a notebook (I'm so geeky, I just went out and bought a file-folder for my ENWorld games...) detailing who has earned what XP per scene. I will happily let someone know if they have enough to write a scroll, for example (if they have time).

BTW, Creamsteak

Did we make a final call on the XP table... Out of the book, or your accelerated one (Level 2 happens at 500XP, I believe?) from the LEW starting thread...

On the Time Issue

This is a bit of a sticky one. If you let player X have the 3 weeks to make his mighty bow, for example, then for a mere 21 XP and 262.5GP, Wizard X now has 21 1st Level Scrolls to carry around."Wow, 1st Level scrolls!" Big deal and all that, but still...The precident could become grounds for abuse.

Why is this abusive? Given the XP cost, I don't expect too many wizards to be wholesaleing scrolls at much below their official "market value". And if the wizard is scribing them for his own use it's no more abusive than the same wizard crafting wands & wondrous items later in his career.

CS, Uriel and the other Judges, just wondering if you guys received my e-mail re: Ravensdale that I sent Saturday. Any comments or questions?
