Disintegrate does not affect trees

Oh no, this is one of those horrible instances when something is not unambigously explained in the books and requires a DM ruling. I can sense some brains boiling.

Okay, a (slightly) more serious question: Presume an ancient castle, covered in moss and ivy.

Can you Disintegrate a hole in that, or does the layer of plant matter block line of effect?

Admitted, you could clean the section off (fireball works nicely), but sometime time is a factor.

Secondary question (peripherally related at best): Presume that you want to clean the lichen off a wall so you can Disintegrate a hole in it. (That was lichen, not Litch by the way.)

How big an area does a single Scorching Ray clear when used this way?

An even more serious question: Can you Disintegrate Undead?

They may be "creatures" by the book, in that even a Zombie has a Charisma score, it's the "living" part that's in doubt.

The "nonliving matter" text only pops up when the spell is targeted at an object. Whether the creature is living or non-living makes no difference; creatures take damage, objects get disintegrated by volume.

wishes he could disintegrate this thread.... wait, no, not a creature... nor made of matter... Damn You Cluadius Elagabalus!!!!

Well, it theoretically exists on some amount of physical media somewhere... but I would greatly prefer if you did not disintegrate all of the servers that ENWorld is hosted upon....
