Dispel Magic vs. Major Iceheart Fimbulwinter

First Post
A major iceheart (Frostburn pg.110) automatically casts the spell Fimbulwinter (Frostburn 93)
every evening. What effect, if any, would casting a targeted Dispel Magic on the iceheart have, if the duration of the weather generated by the spell is 4d12 weeks and encompasses an area 15 miles in radius? Would it completely clear up an area 20' in radius for 1d4 rounds, clear all of the effects in the entire radius of 15 miles for 1d4 rounds, or have essentially no effect?

What about other spells that dispel or suppress magic (e.g., Antimagic Field)?

It seems all it would do is make the item easier to destroy, seeing as how it's temporarily non-magical. And, I guess if you happened to dispel it within 1d4 of when it was going to re-activate, but that's quite unlikely, as I'm sure you know.

It's kinda like asking, "What would happen if I cast Dispel Magic on that +5 sword after the enemy Fighter did 86 points of damage to me?" or "If I dispel that Wand of Mage Armor halfway through the battle, does the Mage Armor on the mage disappear?" Because, really, the item's already done its magic- so dispelling the item won't do any good. The spell, however, may still be dispellable (I don't know the specifics of the spell itself). If possible, you'd be much better off dispelling the Fimbulwinter spell itself.

If the fimbulwinter spell is already "running" then I don't see why dispelling the iceheart would do anything. The iceheart casts the spell, but once the spell is cast it is an ongoing magical effect and not tied specifically to the iceheart, presumably.

Time your dispel right, though, and you might be able to stop it from casting the spell for a day I guess.

I have no idea about the original question, but I think my next character is going to be called Major Iceheart Fimbulwinter. That's awesome!

Gnomish Marshall. *nod*

Major Gimble "Iceheart" Fimbulwinter.

The gnome that's as cold as ice and willing to sacrifice your love.

:p
