Dispel Magic

I don't have the spell in front of me right now. If it is cast as area dispel on a party and they have no spells active or even if spells are active, will it also dispel any item magic (i.e. ring of blinking or amulet of health, etc.). I remember it will start with one direction and move until something is dispelled. Are items treated along with active spells or do spells take precedence for dispelling before active magic items?

According to the PHB, area dispels never affect magic items.
