Disruption = Bludgeoning only???

My question is why?

Couldn't they just leave that 2E restriction outta 3/3.5? As far as I'm aware they only had that restriction because clerics could really only use bludgeoning weapons and they wanted them to have an undead melee ability that clerics could use.

Clerics can now freely use all sorts of weapons and restricting the disruption ability to bludgeoning is just plain stupid if you ask me.

You could also say the same about keen weapons, (being restricted to slashing and piercing, not cleric affiliated).

Does anybody out there agree?

I don't have a problem with the restriction. It seems to be more of a flavor issue than anything else. There is something to be said for tradition or continuity, even if clerics are no longer restricted to bludgeoning weapons.

Having said that, I am not going to complain if my DM introduces an ancient elven longsword of disruption used by elven clerics and paladins to destroy their undead enemies. I am not going to inform him that it is impossible to have slashing weapons with the disruption ability. If it is right for his world, then the restriction is meaningless.

Kinda weird that the disrupting weapon spell can be cast on any melee weapon, but the Disrupting weapon ability is bludgeoning only. I also think it's strange that disrupting weapon is not a pre-req for making a Disrupting weapon.
