Divine Metamagic

I'm starting a cleric (going for Radiant Servant of Pelor) at lvl 6, and I thought this feat looked to good to pass up. But which metamagic feats are best suited for this?

Also, what other feats are good for a cleric that wants to focus on turning and spellcasting? I'm currently thinking Extra Turning (prereq), Quicken Turning and Empower Turning.

Be sure to check the errata on Divine Metamagic, as it remedies a look of the 'too good to be true' feel.

If you're going to specialise in turning, you might want to pick up a Phylactery of Undead Turning, or look at the Divine feats that are powered by Turn Undead uses. Libris Mortis might also have some turning feats that are worth a look.

The errata didn't remedy the flaws in that feat NEARLY enough.
That is to say: The errata said you must pick one metamagic feat that you already have. It does not apply to all metamagic feats you (may) have, nor does it allow you to pick a metamagic feat you don't have.

So........ Take Divine Metamagic (Quicken spell) after you have the metamagic feat Quicken Spell. Lots of good stuff there. My Clr loves it!

I believe the problem being referred to was the "Divine metamagicked Persistent Spell".

Especially given that Divine Metamagic Persistant Spell typically requires three feats to use it once per day and as many as five feats to use twice

First you need Persistant, then Divine Persistant, then you have to expend *seven* turning attempts each time you want to use it which means most Clerics will need Extra Turning just to do it once...

Edit: Doh. Extra Turning. Not Improved turning.

Actually, first you need to allow persistant spell. ;) Also, I think you mean Extra Turning.

Anyway, the problems that can be found are attributable to the fact that turning attempts are not equivalent to spell levels. I think divine metamagic would be better written to accommodate the huge descrepancy. For example, if all I need to do is burn a feat to cast my highest level spell as quickened once per day, that's a no-brainer. There's no additional cost to quicken a 9th level spell versus a 1st level spell, however. Maybe something like adding in the spell level - the modifer (min. 0) would help. Dunno.

I'm going to assume that this is a brand-new character (as opposed to an already established one). If you are going to focus on turning, look really hard at the elemental domains instead of the Radiant Servant's sun domain, as extra turning also increases your turn attempts with those as well.

As an example, selecting fire and earth as your domains and taking extra turning with even a modest charisma score can be quite impressive. You'd have the ability to rebuke fire and earth creatures, turn water and air, plus your undead powers as well. Total denial/control of all of the elemental types plus undead, which is a substantial subset of the monsters out there.

Divine Metamagic IS a lot of fun. You spotted the obvious choice of quicken. Reach spell is another you want to give a very serious look at. The ability to do a ranged heal or inflict at need should not be overlooked.

I've seen mixed results with Quicken and Empower turning. I'd probably not bother with them.

Actually the 3.5 versions of Quicken Turning and Empower Turning (from CDiv) are both quite nice. Far better than the ones printed in DotF.
