Ooooh, now that I saw it in a larger format I admit it rocks! I saw it as a small pic before and it was kinda hazy. I apologize!
But the entire pic on Matt's site is a lot better, the 2nd dragon does it! Why didn't they go for that one? Maybe it's on the back...
Btw, why did they choose exactly this lady? They could have gone the way of FRCS and put some "neutral" device on front, like the dragonlance.
Finally, will they use the old DL 5th age logo or will they make a new one? I think they should. Currently it looks too "flashy".
Okay, the two fighting on dragon back are not actually meant to be specific characters, although they are pretty reminiscent of Laurana and Kitara...it was just decided that a blue dragon and a gold dragon would make an interesting battle scene, and with this being Dragonlance, there had to be dragon riders with one wielding a lance

The High Clerist's Tower in the background was chosen, pretty much because it's an almost instantly identifable piece to anyone that reads Dragonlance, but for those that do not, well it just looks cool without taking attention away from the primary battle scene.
As for the cover of the War of Souls, and most likely our products in general, the idea is to show that this is a world related to the novels, but now strong enough to stand on its own. So, much like the Wheel of Time d20 book, we are not going with a "generic" feel for the books, but trying to make the game book sit side by side the novels. Consider it cross-polination

We want people who read the books to play the game, so having similiar covers makes them instantly identifable on the shelves...similar cover treatments, identifable figures or scenes, etc

PS - Oh yeah, the logo you see is the logo we'll be using. We use what WotC uses for their novel line
