DM Screen errata up!

For those interested, I gave a run-down of the screen over on the WotC message boards under the screen name Baron von Bomberg: http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?p=16399038#post16399038.

And yes, it takes a long, long time to print and distribute such a thing. In this process the actual printing is only the very first step - okay, after producing the printing plates. Mounting, packaging and distributing so that all retailers get their copies before the street day is not done within one week. Clever guys that they are, WotC also calculates some buffer time - as can be seen from the messages that stores have their copies a week before the street day.

OK, so I tried to follow your link, Jan.

First, I had to log into the forums. Then I had to log in again on a different screen. And when I finally tried again, I got a message saying that I didn't have permission to view the page.

Oh yeah -- I logged into D&D Insider just to be safe -- which didn't keep me logged into Gleemax or the WotC forums or whatever the heck it is I'm supposed to be looking at.

Am I under the effect of a curse spell?

No, sounds typical of Gleemax.

The DM's Screen isn't due out for another two weeks.

So in the past six plus weeks, they couldn't have changed the print-run to reflect the errata?

I consider this yet another fail, not a success. Pasting bits over a DM screen I have to pay for is not a good thing.

I take it you have no never worked on something that goes to print... It takes a LONG time to get anything corrected. They probably have tons of these printed already. It sucks, but its not due to any failure on their end. Like Merric, I'm glad they are so quick to post the errata. It'll be corrected in a subsequent printing.

Just proves to me that my decision to buy into 4E until after they reprint everything with errata included is a good decision.

I guess I learned the lesson with 3E.

Plus it helps I am in absolutely no hurry to DM 4E. As only a player I certainly don't need the books. Which is a good thing.

Wizards has been very quick and posted the Errata to the upcoming DM's Screen - you print it out and paste over the Skill DC table.

I'm very impressed by their prompt attitude to errata with 4e, even if I'm not sure what they're doing with the skill DCs. :)

Cheers!

But has the errata been incorporated into the PDF's yet on the core books?

It's good to get errata up. Better to get the electronic files updated. Must better.

Not yet, AFAIK, but I'm ok with waiting a few more weeks for all the errata to be collated and then included in the PDFs in one fell swoop.

Cheers!

It would be interesting to know how many DM Screens sell versus how many people download the errata pdf, to get an idea the percentage of DMs access online content, since it is fairly essential information to update and very easy to do so in that manner.

It really would be. As I recall, DM Screens actually sell extremely well (interesting, given they're normally relatively expensive).

Cheers!
