DM Screen - updated for errata?

Clear tape and paper also works well if you have a crappy printer like I do that for some inexplicable $#@! reason likes to eat label paper and cardstock. And I mean eat, you can hear the crunching sounds and all.

On the plus side, the good things said about the screen in this thread have prompted me to look into it. (off-topic slightly) As for time spent in making it vs. buying it; as a professional I get way more than $10/hour, so it's not likely that making it myself is ever an economic choice. Mowing the lawn myself isn't even economically viable. If I remember the salary thread here on ENWorld a while back (1-2 years maybe), I'm still only in the average group (but maybe with the new economy, not so much).

has there been an updated salary thread given the recession? I searched around and wasn't able to find it. Perhaps the thread title wasn't clear?

I haven't seen one, but also I haven't been hanging around in the off-topic forum either. I bet the old thread is lost in some past crash. I couldn't find it using Google.

How was the salary thread organized - surely people weren't chiming in with their actual salaries? Were they throwing themselves into range categories in a poll?

I would start a new thread, but I don't know where to put it. Plus, I'm a little uncomfortable initiating a salary-based thread -- since part of my question would relate to the recent recession. And I know from experience with some laid-off friends ... that they don't want to talk about.

C.I.D.

I hear you - you don't see me initiating one either!

Well met, Chainsaw.

I have a suspicion that EN World is in a higher socioeconomic demographic based on the quality of the written arguments I see on the boards. In addition, some of the math experts around here are truly impressive.

It is an interesting topic though -- especially if such a thread were only kept to salary ranges, and the discussion related only to analysis of the poll and not individuals specific money.

(Maybe someone with a second account could make it anonymously. Note to self: start a second account.)

Back to the original topic...

I just picked up the DM screen at 30% off (FLGS) and it is truly awesome. Very thick cardstock, like a good hardcover book, very well put together. Best of all, it's longways so not as tall (11x8.5 basically), so I can look over it at the table. I HIGHLY recommend the DM Screen, regardless of what errata is necessary.

Agreed. I picked up several courses unnecessary to my MSCS degree and thought I knew a thing or two, but my meager skills pale in comparison to those who post on these boards. I can't even always follow the discussions, quite frankly, without resorting to reading up at wolfram.

Yeah I didn't mean to threadjack. I love the 4e DM Screen.

In fact I still use the un-erratted numbers when I DM. I explicitly tell my PCs this as well. I modify and give the +2 bonus often, but I hate how WotC tried to turn 4e into a backdoor auto-success rpg.

Does that make sense?

Anyway, for my purposes .... the DM Screen is more than worth the money. Its also the perfect height (being shorter than previous editions. And its four panels.

Wow, I am sorry I do not possess the secrets of how to make hardcover-quality GM screens!

If I did, I would perhaps qualify to enter your secret club! (and perhaps I'd make my own screen with my houserules)

Serves me right for asking a polite question!
Oh, there's no secret. Here's you how do it, Felon-style. First, grab the finest two 8.5 x 11 inch hardback books you can get your hands on. Now, what you wanna do next is rip the pages off the spine. Just rip'em right out.

I know what you're thinking. "But, Felon, those books prolly cost, like, $50 each. That can't be what Kzach meant." Bear in mind though, nobody's saying they have to be your books. Remember, you're doing this Felon-style.

Now you have two hardcover-quality screens. If you would rather have one four-panel screen just like the official D&D DM screen, just fix them with the same thing I have always used to apply repairs to anything or anyone that I've been dissatisfied with: copious amounts of duct tape.
