D&D 5E DM Seeking Urban Adventure Material

StrangeFate

Villager
Hey folks,

So I'm a relatively new 5E DM, been DM-ing 3/3.5/4E for years. I'm trying to find some adventures that are set in large cities. Has anybody seen any good material for 5E set in large cities? If not 5E, I've got a pretty good hand at adapting older material.

I've got an idea of the party setting out to explore an abandoned warehouse when they find something more sinister beneath it, maybe a kind of Frankenstein's laboratory.

Anybody have any good adventure suggestions for me?

Jason

PS - The campaign is set in Eberron so the pulpier the better! :)

There is some OSR stuff that is pretty darn good for cities.

Yoon-Suin (a campaign setting) has a lot of useful stuff seeing how a core aspect of the setting is the Yellow City. Notably are creation guidelines on how to create social groups within a city, and how they interact with each other. However the "flavor" may not be up to your liking - it's not a "european" setting by any means.

I don't have it but apparently the Vornheim book has excellent city building tools.

I personally enjoyed Murder In Baldur's Gate quite a lot, which is as good as edition-neutral because there's hardly any combat in it.

My campaign is set in an elven colony, grown to a human city, now conquered by a force of orcs and giants. I'm happy to lend you some of the setup I did.

I'm afraid my maps are still on paper, but you should make your own anyway :)

The players are currently dealing with the curfews and rationing imposed by the giants while trying to make contact with the Bricklayers and get a more reliable tout around town. They blasted their way in, and the Kneelers are currently trying to find whoever did it, since there's a delicate balance between the forces -- the giants would be just as happy to kill everyone and take the treasures, but the humans sued for peace and their current arrangement is easier.

The next session is going to involve them figuring out enough smugglers to keep their seized vultures fed (or, more likely, finding the mass graves that one of the wall-adjacent slums was converted into) and making contact with Melian Arvanaith agents gone to ground in the city: they want help finding the Melamar Aril, gone missing into the dungeons under the Rhymer's Tower, before agents of the Skullsigners do: he went to ensure a sleeping demigoddess didn't awake during the chaos, but was separated from the key he requires to seal or unseal her portal, so is (if still alive) presumably guarding her.

Between those, I have enough "hex-crawl-y content" to keep a step or two ahead of my players so far :-D
