D&D 5E Lacking Motivation/Inspiration

I would suggest talking to players. Get their input. Ask them what are they interested in doing, where do they wanna go, what are short term goals of their characters etc. That can give you some inspiration and also direction in which way to steer things.

Have your players help you. Ask them for direction. Use their backstories for ideas. What would they like to do, and where would they like to go? Collaborate!

So what has helped me in the past is to do something different for myself. Taking a walk/hike/drive in a new area might shake loose some mental cobwebs. Find something to watch that outside of your normal viewing.

Doing something new/diffrent sometimes (warning not always) will spark creativity in me and get me going down the writing/prep road again.

Good Luck

One other cool idea (stolen from the irrepressible @SlyFlourish) is to ask them to write a 'one year later' story. It doesn't have to be long--what have they done with a year in game time? Might generate some great ideas.

In my group, the expectation is that we are making the path together. Give me ideas, boys, and I'll spin them into adventure.
