DMG 3 = Epic Focus?

Are you asking what people's opinions should be or did you have one in mind that should be obvious that I'm not getting?

hmmm, my tone above shouldn't come across as jerky - I'm legitimately curious :)

I'm not convinced that the DMG3 will focus on any proto-typical epic setting, though if they did, the City of Brass would be my guess (though I expect it will get some sort of in-depth treatment in The Plane Below). I think Union is no more; it hasn't received any sort of mention in current 4e publications (and so far, I don't remember seeing any mention of the mercane either).

City of Brass will be in DMG3. Of that I am sure. It was strongly hinted elsewhere. It also makes sense, considering it's the only other planar city that has been given much space in the books.

It's also a classic.

I was actually thinking Union. I liked some of the background of that city but know that it was (almost) universally panned for being an 'Epic' city in the first place.

Jeez did Union suck.

"Oh, I'm a 30th level city guard, because I don't have anything better to do with my time!"

NO 30th-level character, PC or NPC, should need a god damn regular job.

The "need" for Union in 4e is no longer there, as there are already cities populated by epic-level denizens in the core cosmology, like the City of Brass or Hestavar that have already take its role.

City of Brass well preceeds 3e though no? And isn't Hestavar the githyanki city, which is also older than 3e?

Already having something in place doesn't necessarily invalidate something else.

Although I am thinking City of Brass will actually see print as opposed to Union.

The City of Brass pre-dates 4e and 3e, Hestavar is new to 4e (you were thinking of Tu'narath). Union was created to give epic-level characters a level-appropriate homebase and a chance to hobnob with other epic NPCs; its ridiculous because it was created whole cloth in 3e (which probably would have been less of a problem if they weren't using the Great Wheel cosmology) and because it took the DMG's demographic rules to their most ridiculous extremes (though I can't remember if it followed the rules exactly).
