DMG II -- In my hands . . .

I do not think it would make good business sense to make the contents of a just released book into open content. Would make the book rather useless really quick.

Why would you think that? Open game content in any amount does not make the book useless.

What I mean is that, maybe after the initial release, when most of the copies are in the hands of consumers....

Then making some of the material open game content.... That makes better business sense, especially when they can tie the re-release of the content to some other product.

Sorta like how Lucas re-releases SW material... to re-spark interest and a possible tie-in (and ultimately to make more money).

According to the legal text, DMGII contains no OGC. I certainly hope that some of it--magical locations, unique character traits, guardian spirits, and definitely the mob template--do make it to the SRD eventually. :)

I definitely want the magical locations. (And planar touchstones from the Planar Handbook.)

As I expected. And while I hope for additions to the SRD as well, I suspect we won't see too many. I mean, it's been how long since we've been promised (or threatened, as some may see it) the Planar Handbook to get into the SRD?

So, is the mob template intended to be restricted to groups of creatures acting with a single will? Can a bunch of commoners become a mob just by bunching up real tight and screaming "kill'em!" in unison, or is there some sort of condition under which creatures can be considered a mob? Can a mob consist of any type of creature? What kind of damage does a mob do if the individuals are armed with a variety of weapons? Does a mob engulf opponents and inflict damage without attack rolls like a swarm does?

I think yes. That's the way it was in old Dungeon issue. A mob of angry commoners trying to kill the hero.

Yes what? Is there a condition or isn't there? A mob of crazed villagers can be considered to be in a primal state of mind, allowing them to act with a single will.

Or, any time the village gets attacked by a troll, can the villagers start leaping together into an amalgam battleform like a medieval Voltron?

Here are a few questions on my end.

How easy is this book to use in existing games? Is it equally beneficial for DMs who are building their own settings as well as those using published setting?

What aspects of the book do you believe are the most helpful for DMs? Is it helpful to players as well?

How quickly should we run out to get this book?

And is there a mass charm variant on the way that will turn them into one, if not?
