Crothian

First Post
Got my copy in the mail today. It looks pretty nice. Anyone else get to see it yet and have impressions? Questions on what is in it that haven't been answered by people who get things faster then i do? :D

I really like the cover art. I usually don't pay a lot of attention to the cover a book, but this one really caught my attention.

I have read very little. I don't like the Rod of Seven Parts. I know the old version was a very powerful artifact as each piece was a magical weapon in its own right, but I liked that. I wanted it to be an artifact set like the magic item sets from AV2. I do like that in the sidebar for it it does mention the Box set from 2e as it was a very good adventure.

At the risk of playing the abused 3e spouse that keeps refusing to press charges on 4e, thinking maybe this time, things will be better* ;) .... what is said about the 4e PoL version of Sigil? How long is the section? How much detail? Any major differences (beyond what we know from 4e MotP) versus Sigil from 2e/3e? How much is new versus copied from 4e MotP?

*I'm joking here. The 4e stuff is a totally different setting, totally different game, so continuity no longer matters and I'm not taking this all nail-bitey and serious-like.

Here's a link to one of Jack99's posts about Sigil. Also, according to a post over at RPG.net, cranium rats are also featured (at least stat wise).

"How do I use this book"

Sort of what has it got in it that I'll want to use?
Unless Crothian knows you rather well, or he has telepathy, I think you're going to need to be more specific than that. Different things appeal to different people?

Wow, that was a little harsh. It keeps reminding me one of these days I need to say my position on the whole 3e/4e debate since we don't seem to get enough opinions on that around here. :D

Sigil, pgs 186-222
It starts with the Origins Stories, no one knows the truth and this section is a bit small. I like how they did it but it really should have been more. There is a nice sidebar lableed Sigil facts that talks about population, government and defense, inns and taverns, supplies, trade, and temples. It is nicely informative. The book goes into The Impossible Place describing the spacial aspects of the city and explaining up and down, da and night, weather, flora and fauna, architecture.

I like the detail so far but my first major complete is almost complete lack of art in the section. I have a near complete set of Planscape books and am a big fan. The artwork is awesome in those books and when I used Sigil in my past campaigns the look was really defined by the art and I used them to show the players. In 4e we get a piece of art on page 187, a map on 196 and 197 (2 different pieces, 197 is full page), one piece on 199, some encounter maps and one small piece. That's it for this section and that is just not enough.

The section is nicely written and I 'm not noticing a lot of changes but I was never an expert on Sigil.
