His hair is black, short and wild, and kept trimmed as if to prevent it from getting in the way of his vision at all costs. He has a nervous streak, and is constantly looking all around him as if expecting trouble at every moment.</p><p>[/sblock]</p><p> </p><p>[sblock=Background]</p><p>Valen is the only son of Regheld Umbar, the village tanner. His mother died in childbirth, so he lives alone with his father, who is also a drunkard. He has learned from a very young age to stay well out of arms reach of his father, who has always shown a willingness to blame him for anything that goes wrong, and who obviously enjoys beating on anything smaller than himself. Odd then that his best friend would turn out to be the village bully. (possible story link to a barbarian or other warrior character.)</p><p> </p><p>The other children dont like him much, as he is thought to spy on them for his bully friend, and their favorite toys and treats seem to go missing when he's around. Not that anyone can prove that he's stolen from them, but it is the consensus of the majority of the children that he's up to no good. It is these children that have nick-named him Squeek, because they equate him to some sort of rodent, though they dare not go any further. That time the bully broke the nose of some lad who'd called Valen "Rat-Boy" is ever present in their minds. Though being in his friend's shadow makes him feel safe, there are times when he must deal with things on his own. Therefore, Valen also has a knack for talking his way out of trouble.
