DnD 4th Edition??? This Is Not A Troll!!

On another thread, I have heard people talking seriously about WotC releasing a

Dungeons and Dragons Fourth Edition

during summer 2003.

Is this true? Or have I fallen victim to a troll?

I've seen this float in and out on various baords and groups over the past six months. Its always traced back to some idiot who wanted to screw with people.

4E shouldnt be out until about 2010-2012 if past trends continue.

Not only that, but I was under the impressiont hat 3E was a pretty big creative venture. While they do still have good people, I am not sure they have the manpower to do it again any time soon.

Well seeing how quick they were to put out a 2nd edition of SWRPG I wouldn't be supried but I doubt it.

With Star Wars that was more to link all the movies up. Plus there's a hell of a lot less stuff to redo with Star Wars than with D&D.

not that I believe this particualr case, but even if past trends of D&D would be once every 10ish years, the trends of virtually every other game sytem would probably be every 3-5 years. It isn't that inconceivable to me that wizards/hasbro might decide to alter their marketing strategies to conform with the industries standards of a new edition every 5 years or so.

D&D is usally more suplement rich than other game systems so a new system should come out elss frequently than the norm though I'd think.
