DnD DVD

I'm surprised there's not a little more interest in this disc. I watched it a little earlier today and saw 3 of the 4 main endings. It's a pretty cool D&D adventure that captures a real game, but isn't super cheesy. Lidda was pretty funny and captured what lots of halfling players attempt to play out. Redgar spoke complete sentences, yet he had a fair amount of fun cliched flair. The druid reminded me a lot of the elven king in LotR. I'd compare the graphics to just shy of Final Fantasy. Much better than a video game and I found a couple scenes almost photorealistic. The character poses seemed like they were arching their backs and looking up a lot though.

I went though the sample disc and saw every ending I think it possible to see on there.

On the endings that were final endings, I was thinking "dang ... that's harsh"

On parts where the disc stopped (because it was a promo disc) I kept thinking " dang - what happens next" -- so that's a good sign that I was into it :)

I watched it a little earlier today and saw 3 of the 4 main

There are two "good" endings, and two...not so good.

So far, the fourth ending seems to be the hardest to get to. I posted in another thread some hints on how to get to it. Not to give anything away, but I could post these hints here as well if people would like them.

BTW: They have updated the Scourge of Worlds website. Mostly the same information, but they do have a link to purchase the DVD, as well as some wallpapers to download.

SALE ALERT!!!

Anyone interested should visit your local Tower Records and Video (or simply Tower Video). It's on sale for $19.95 (US).

More importantly, they're having a 4-day 4th of July weekend sale, and every regular-priced ($15 or higher) DVDs are 25% off.

IOW, I got mine for $15.

[ I'm sure there are lower prices online. ]

Oh my God I want to tear out my eyes after watching that. Argh!

Please, someone teach these animators that sometimes things can stand still. Namely the CAMERA! Grargh!

I watched it with a friend of mine, who goes to an art school and has learned a thing or two about effective visual storytelling. My intent was to watch it with her and heckle what I knew was going to be a cheesy movie, but, . . . dang. Whoa did it suck. I can't even comment on the plot, because the visuals were just so distractingly bad. Everyone was always shifting around unnaturally as they talked, their mouths were hideous, and the CAMERA JUST KEPT MOVING!!!!! *claws out eyes in pain!*

Okay, I'm a little better now. Whoo. Bad bad bad.

At first, I thought the graphics were better than your average video game, but nowhere near as good as any of the recent Final Fantasy games, or the movie (though at least Scourge of Worlds had more vivid facial expressions than FF the movie). But then I noticed how the necks just sort of slid up from the torsos without fitting correctly. And how Lidda apparently has to keep swinging her (mishapen, deformed, flat) head around because she has some sort of vision deficiency. And how Regdar can't lower his arms to his sides, as if he's doing a bad gorilla impersonation. And sure, Mialee's knappy hair was gone, but her face was still shaped like a horse. I'd much rather imagine my D&D Elves looking like Liv Tyler than Mr. Ed.

Ugh, and the landscapes were all completely barren except for maybe three things at a time. And all the buildings were perfectly at right angles, with no realistic slouching or damage or anything. I mean, sure, expecting Final Fantasy X quality of computer graphics might be overly hopeful, but Babylon 5 was doing better special effects 8 years ago, and they were just using PCs too. Now, if there were only one animator doing this all by himself, I'd stop complaining and be impressed, but a team of animators ought to be able to handle something less . . .

Okay, let me put it this way. My friend showed me a 3D animation project she did in her sophomore year at art school. It looked better than Scourge of Worlds. Can't we just have one D&D-based mass media story that's well-done? I mean, the brand is a good one, and I'm sure it'd sell. Why can't we do the fans a favor and make something worth our while?

Next time, just bring a tape recorder to Piratecat's game, record it, and sell us CDs for $15 apiece. I'm sure the quality would be better, and it'd be just as entertaining.

Sorry, RangerWickett, but most of us are not art major. :p

I do believe they could improve but this is their first product, so I can let that slide. I still prefer Scourge of Worlds over D&D:TM.

I can hope the SoW sequel or the second DVDn product will have more scenes, more choices, and more iconic characters, as well as improving the graphics.

OBTW, if your friends can do better, invest in their startup business and get their wares out. Alternately, they should get hired by the production company that make Scourge of Worlds.

I look forward to a growing DVDn market in the future.

Hey, I don't know about the rest of you, but I was damned excited about this thing. Finally, I can bring my love of DnD and my love of movies together for one fairly amusing romp. The graphics weren't the best but they weren't as bad as some of you seem to think. Think about all the different combinations of stories had to be programmed in here and you won't wonder why they didn't waste time on fancy graphics. I actually thought they were quite good. I think that the characters were quite cleverly brought to life through some good acting and I could tell that the writers actually had lots of experience playing the game and getting the feel for how this should actually feel. I could feel their love for the game and their experience with it. All in all, I think it was a very well done DVD. Well worth $20 and I can't wait for the next one!

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp So far I've found three of the four endings in the full-version DVD (not including some of the dead-end endings).

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Anyone here found the fourth ending yet?

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp The three (of four) endings I have found are:

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp SPOILER ALERT...

1) The ending where the group defeats Balrathion while remaining relatively unhurt and takes the Scourge to the downed Druid. Ariadne then shows up and almost takes the Scourge away until Lidda pushes her, causing Ariadne to lose her hand. Ariadne then vows that "this isn't over" and jumps off the "bridge". The Druid then tells the group that they must now look after the Scourge since his druids are dead and he is no longer worthy of guarding it. Afterward they leave, with Lidda complaining that she's owed "big time".

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp I'm assuming that this is one of the "good" endings.

2) The ending where the group defeats Balrathion but are badly injured themselves. They take the Scourge to the downed Druid, when Ariadne shows up and kills the Druid. She then fights and kills both Regdar and Mialee, and tells a badly-wounded Lidda that she'd better get crawling if she wants to escape the beholder that's going to wake up "any time now". Ariadne then leaves with the Scourge, while Lidda crawls to a dead Mialee as the beholder can be heard coming closer.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp This one is undoubtedly a "bad" ending.

3) The ending where a dragon (I think) is unleashed, and Ariadne's voice could be heard saying something like "It's not quite what I expected, but it'll do!"

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp I can't remember the other details of this ending as I've only reached it once, and for the life of me I can't seem to retrace my path to it. Still, I'm assuming that this is the other "bad" ending.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Could someone here please tell me how to reach ending #3 again, as well as how to reach the #4 ending that I can't seem to find?

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Thanks! :)

There are four endings, but there are only two to choose from depending on which path and what decisions you make.

*Spoilers* ( Well, hints anyways)

*Last chance to turn back*

Okay. Here you go.

As for your first question: Getting to the third ending.
Basically, whenever you can, choose to go with Rayne, and make decisions against Barathion. If you want to make doubly sure, make some bad decisions that take you to a dead end. When you get to the end, you should have "Attack" and something like "Steal Key" available to you. Choose "Steal key" to get the Dragon ending.

To get the one you missed, just do the opposite: Make decisions in favour of Barathion. Just don't tick him off, and never follow the Druids. The characters also need to know one piece of information: The true identity of Ariadne. This can be found in two places, both in the green "key chamber". Chances are, you'll have chosen the one where Barathion is already in the fortress, and you've left Rayne outside. If this is the case, you'll want to choose the "cast spell" option. If you end up in the other room, then you should pick the "confront" option. Keep doing things on your own, not helping or following Rayne, and don't hit any dead ends, even just to see them. At the end, you'll have two choices: "Reason" and "Tell Truth" (or something like that). Choose the "Truth" option for the fourth ending.

Hope that helps.

I finally got to the elusive fourth ending, which is much better than the other one.

So ... will there be a sequel, or a different D&D DVDn? ;)

I don't know about you guys but I wanna see Tordek, Krusk, and Ember.
