Who wants ten thousand useless "blind kobold" figures cluttering up their shelves?

No one, which is why these sorts of things simply arn't likely to happen with the randomised boxes. If mr. or ms. consumer buys 4 boxes of the minis and ends up with 18 kobolds, do you think they'd be buying more boxes?

Now, do you think that the largest RPG company in the world, who have turned DnD totally around, don't know this? do you think that they haven't thought about how to keep people buying the boxes? This isn't going to be a 'land card' situation, because the game doesn't require a basic type.

WotC maybe many things, but stupid they are not. Their successes far outway their failures, and i'm guessing that this is going to be a huge success, that will allow the wierd and wonderful figures to get made, and not get discontinued because only 5 people want an aboleth or 10 want a shrieker.

But how often do you just go buy an ogre now? I've never gone into a store thinking "okay, I need an ogre for this week's game, let's see what ogres are available." I just tend to buy a few minis at a time, based on what looks good or what I think I might like to paint. Then they sit on my shelf, waiting for me to get enough motivation to paint them :)

When it comes time to use them in game, I just look around at what I have and if I have something I need, I use it. If not, I use skittles or something. Basically, it's not all that different from buying a random pack.
Interesting. Got me thinking...

When I buy a few boxes of these, I'll probably come up with a reason to throw some of these monsters into my game that I never would have before. But the mini may inspire me to, even if it is just the one time. :)

Your right they won't. Like when I bought a starter and two boosters for mage knight pyramid and ended up with two identical heros, and pairs of 4 other monsters. I've not bought any Mage Knight since, if commons are as common as that I'm not interested.

Yup, even awfully painted blind kobold minis would be an improvement over some of the ragtag counters I use for tactical combat;) So I'll buy at least a box or two to see if I like 'em.

2 - The cost works out to about $1.24 (before taxes) per miniature.

Through Potomac Distribution, you can knock off 40% if you make a $100 or more purchase. Every year for my bday, I used to do this for my annual Magic fix. (:

One good thing about plastic: They store fine in ziplock bags, and are light enough to carry. Players love fondling them, so, to keep them busy, I can give the mini's to the players and say, "I need 10 orcs".

And, of course, D&D will definitely be played at the RPG Nursing Home. These minis will last a ***long*** time. (:

 Seriously? I don't see anything about that on their website...I see a 4% discount for $1000 orders...are you sure you didn't get your zeroes in the wrong place?
