DnD minis cheap?

I've just started DMing again, running return to the temple of elemental evil. I want to stock up on some of the DnD minis, nothing extravagant. Just a lot of commons and whathave you. Where is the best place to do this? Should I buy them individually from any specific sites (links please!) or should I scour ebay?

I've had good luck with e-bay.

You can buy entire sets of commons and uncommons for cheap!

An entire set of commons can sometimes go for as low as $5 (plus shipping).

I don't need a set of commons though, I'm gonna need dozens of specific commons more likely.

Same thing. You can usually buy "[x] common x10".

Really the way to go is e-bay.

Despite the raves about IconUSA, I've found the enormous secondary market on eBay to offer vastly superior deals, if you're willing to do the footwork in wading through dozens of different vendors.

I realize you want minis, but in the mean time - go with counters - you can mass produce them with relative easy and fairly cheaply - armies of goblinoids, orcs, undead and the like are quite easy to come up with in this manner.
But the big pay off is that it gives you time to get those legions of minis you're looking for.

Mainly I want to stock up enough to have a mini which is a close enough representation of just about everything in the Crater Ridge Mines. Obviously it won't be exact, but I can try.

Is there a place to get fantasy minis without the stupid cards and collectible rare/uncommon crap? I don't want them for prestige, I want them for tactics.
